Spire is a perfect example of why it's nearly impossible to break into the soft synth market these days. I barely touch it these days, because it just doesn't do anything better than Massive or Serum. Spire is the embodiment of the best opportunities, within software and hardware synthesizers. I really tried my ass off to justify using Spire considering I spent the money on it, but there comes a point where it's just not worth it anymore. Spire 1.1.15 is a polyphonic software synthesizer that combines powerful sound engine modulation and flexible architecture, and a graphical interface provides unparalleled usability. All the sounds and samples in this pack are original: VST synthesis from scratch, heavily manipulated presets or distorded & layered samples. Many of Spire's filters are analog models (one set of them is modeled after the Virus TI) but I can't get them to ever sound as good as Serum's filters. It even performed worse for essentials I could not even get a simple Supersaw or a Reese in Spire to sound as good as their Serum counterparts. I still make the essentials in Massive, and I have no reason to give up Serum's extensive envelope/LFO/performer tweakability when wanting to make stranger sounds.

It feels far more restrictive - its envelopes and performers/LFOs function essentially the exact same as Massive's (I would even call them slightly more restrictive than Massive, even), and while having an extra oscillator and slightly more tweakable effects, Spire doesn't really come across as much of an upgrade to Massive. They've made significant upgrades to Spire's CPU efficiency since it has come out, and they're still working on it.įor a couple months after buying it I tried to make every excuse to use Spire, but at this point I never find myself using it over Serum or Massive for anything except when I just feel like doing something different or looking at a different interface. Full of fresh and phatt progressive sounds for pop, Top 40, commercial, urban and all in between.
