To trick the ECU you are running bellow 14.5 psi all the time you need a Fuel Cut Defender (FCD) to bypass the protection. This means that there will be less powerful bangs in the cylinders, less pressure built in the exhaust, therefore less turbo rpm and no extra boost. The stock ECU will start cutting off fuel if the pressure reaches 14.5 psi (1 bar) for around 3 seconds. Now that the possibility for more boost has been created, you have to make the turbos reach 1.2. The US or EU turbos don't need a restrictor, but they will require a bleed valve or a boost controller to reach 1.2 bar. Watch out though, as eliminating both cats can make the turbos go over 1.2 bar at some point on the JDM version and they might get damaged, so you should consider a restrictor ring fitted between the 1st and 2nd decatalysed pipes. Tuners will offer completely de-cat exhausts or some that will ease the gases flow but not disable them completely to stay in the emission levels. First of all make sure if you are allowed to take them off in your region so you won’t have some troubles with the law. There are two catalytic convertors, one for cold engine emissions and one for when it gets hot. Which means to take out the catalytic convertors which highly restrict the gas flow in the exhaust pipes.

To make the turbos go faster and make more boost, you need to free up the exhaust. The 1.2 bar pressure is known to make the engine develop around 400 hp, so this should be both safe and sufficient for this setup. If you have a JDM engine the turbos are ceramic and can safely handle about 17.4 psi (1.2 bar), but if you got the US version the steel turbo blades can go up to 20.3 psi (1.4 bar). The stock turbos are making 11 psi (0.76 bar). These are the main components that will give you more power through ramming more air in the cylinders. Starting with the intake, it’s widely accepted that a standard GTE airbox fitted with a free-flow panel filter is in fact more efficient at supplying cool air for the turbos, but if you really think the conical exposed one works well, then consider putting one on the list. You should know that the BPUs should be made all at once to get the most out of the setup.įirst thing you need to know is that the 2JZ-GTE likes to breathe, so you should start with this. This includes updates to the intake, exhaust, downpipes and boost controller for starters.

However, if you don’t want to go trough the hassle of replacing the two stock turbos with a bigger aftermarket one, you can stick to the Basic Performance Upgrade or BPU. Most tuners can get it to around 600 hp with stock internals by converting it to single turbo, changing the ECU and adding some bigger injectors along a less resistive exhaust. Mods! The 2JZ-GTE engine is known to have a lot of unexploited power amount lying in its six cylinders waiting to be unleashed.
